Apple and Berry Heart Pie

  • RECIPE MAKES: 1 Large Pie, 6-8 Portions
  • PREP TIME: 60 mins
  • COOK TIME: 30 mins
Step 1

Rub the Fate Low Protein All-Purpose Mix and the margarine together in a mixing bowl until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

Step 2

In a separate bowl add the sugar to the water and stir until combined.

Step 3

Add the sugar and water mix to the Fate Low Protein All-Purpose Mix and margarine mixture and stir until combined.

Step 4

Leave to rest for 10 minutes.

Step 5

Preheat an oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas mark 6.

Step 6

Dust a clean work surface with Fate Low Protein All-Purpose Mix and knead the pastry for a minute on the work surface until smooth.

Step 7

Using a rolling pin, roll out 2/3 of the pastry to cover the bottom, allowing for a slight overhang.

Step 8

Place the apples, blackberries, raspberries and brown sugar in the pastry and spread evenly.

Step 9

Roll the second ball of pastry out and using a heart cutter, cut out 28 small hearts out.

Step 10

Arrange the hearts in circles on top of the filling so that the point of the hearts are pointing to the centre of the pie.

Step 11

Brush with ProZero and bake in the pre-heated oven for 30 mins or until golden.

Step 12

Cool on a wire rack.

Top Tip:
Serve with ProZero custard.

  • To make the pastry:
  • 250g Fate Low Protein All-Purpose Mix, plus extra for dusting
  • 125g Soft Margarine
  • 30g Caster sugar
  • 50ml Water
  • 20ml ProZero
  • To make the filling:
  • 2 large Braeburn apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 150g Blackberries
  • 150g Raspberries
  • 50g Brown sugar
  • You will need a 23cm (9inch) pie dish and a 4cm heart cutter.
